Description

" Despite the growth in top-caliber interdisciplinary studies programs over the past decade, the field often still suffers from harmful stereotypes which cast INDS course offerings as wishy-washy and lacking in intellectual heft. INDS programs have striven to meet such assertions head-on by seeking to convince potential students that they allow individuals to tailor their education to personal and professional needs in a flexible and rigorous manner. Yet, while studies exist which examine how INDS programs market themselves to potential students, literature rarely asks how INDS students seek to convince future employers, family members or friends of the benefits of an INDS degree. In an effort to understand how INDS students market themselves to various audiences we have co-authored and distributed a survey focusing on INDS student marketing to a number of graduate programs similar to SUU’s own. Though we do not yet have the results of said survey, we believe our analysis will be complete by the conference, where we hope to present our findings. In the process we believe we can assist INDS programs nation-wide in better understanding marketing strategies their students can employ before, during and after their time in their respective universities.
