Irreducibility and Interdisciplinarity: A Case for Examining Amanda Gorman’s “The Hill We Climb” through an Interdisciplinary Lens
Date & Time
Saturday, October 16, 2021, 5:00 PM - 5:50 PM
Description

Using Amanda Gorman’s inauguration poem “The Hill We Climb,” we will examine how interdisciplinary analysis is required to understand both the poem’s message and its popular reception. We will compare and contrast reactions to the poem that analyze it from a singular lens and those that approach it from an interdisciplinary viewpoint. We will look at responses to the poem that fall along a spectrum from unflinching rigor to unbridled generosity, and we will discuss several disciplinary frameworks that bring context to the poem and its performance. While the analysis will be focused on the poem, the discussion will be a broader commentary on the benefits of interdisciplinary study.
