Description

The eclectic and affective scholarly work of Greg Ulmer describes academia (and culture broadly) as having moved from the oral apparatus, into the literate apparatus, and now, continuing into the electrate apparatus. By integrating and grounding electrate theory into the broader interdisciplinary conversation, Electracy with its avant-garde, post-pedagogical, and “heuretic” practices can open atypical/creative practice/s. For the purpose of this discussion, by opening ethics of punning in considering the concept of culture jamming, the authors of this panel present a discussion about jam and its connections to Roland Barthes’ notions of idiorrhythmy, which (in speaking to the conference theme), when coupled with the considerations of Jam provide openings for considering how others can be, exist, and mutually identify (Kenneth Burke) even in such challenging times.
