Description

During a global pandemic, preparing my senior capstone work, it was impressed on me that interdisciplinary studies reached far beyond the academic settings of Weber State University. Learning to maximize my networking with mentors, improving my situational awareness on needs-based research within the state of Utah, and overcoming that first-timer uneasiness to unite interdisciplinary studies (chemistry, paramedics, and health sciences) into a tangible research outcome. In my final year at Weber State during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was working as a paramedic for the fire department and working for a mortuary. Rapidly observing how the pandemic was integrating itself into my jobs and academic settings,I wanted to know how specific emergency medical service protocols in the state of Utah were being affected. My goal in this presentation is to inform students of the outcomes of my research, and help those in attendance to better grasp what it takes to implement interdisciplinary tasks as scholarly mentors, graduate students, or undergraduate students. Whether a first-time researcher or a seasoned veteran, I hope this presentation will be applicable to others in the interdisciplinary fields of study.
