I hope to present on some of the interdisciplinary pedagogies that I have used to support Black students at Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). The following questions will be explored: 1. How might Black students experience HSIs? 2.What are some of the needs of Black students at HSIs? 3. How can educators serve the specific needs of Black students who attend HSIs? The findings offer Black Centered Action Instruction (BCAI) as a pedagogical practice. BCAI centers the specific interests of Black students who are within the minority of a majorly minority space, encourages active engagement with Black students both in and out of the classroom, and encourages the creation of safe Black spaces for students. The implications encourage educators to consider the history of antiblackness within American culture, especially within largely minority spaces, and apply this to the possibility of similar practices in higher education and the classroom. That is, even though an institution is Hispanic or minority serving, it is likely that similar to PWIs, the institution is somehow operating as a disservice to its Black students. Educators must continue to think critically about interdisciplinary pedagogical methods to serve Black students through various high impact and culturally relevant curriculums.
