Sometimes the people we most often collaborate with in a job aren’t necessarily the ones we initially expected. STEM has lately been highly valued, so collaborators in these fields reasonably stand out as particularly promising. But others with as much or more to offer can escape our attention, so it’s important to proactively and creatively explore other possibilities. We will discuss our experiences doing so and encourage others to do the same in order to develop a more robust, dynamic perspective on fostering interdisciplinarity and an appropriate balance between the generosity and rigor we bring to our interactions with students and colleagues.
